EDITORIAL: COSTUMING Print E-mail

I was a little disappointed that some folks disregarded costuming, especially at the Long Range events on Friday.  I'm not talking about "minimalist" cowboy; I'm talking about ball caps and tennis shoes that were in evidence.  This does not apply to Gideon Walker, who costumes up quite well, but broke his foot during set up Friday and still tried to shoot the match wearing tenny-runners due to his injury!  That's a COWBOY!  But this is what the SHOOTERS' HANDBOOK has to say on the subject:

"CLOTHING AND ACCOUTERMENTS
Cowboy Action Shooting™ is a combination of historical reenactment and Saturday morning at the matinee. Participants may choose the style of costume they wish to wear, but all clothing must be typical of the late 19th century, a B-western movie, or Western television series.
SASS puts a great deal of emphasis on costuming because it adds so much to the uniqueness of our game and helps create a festive, informal atmosphere that supports the friendly, fraternal feeling we encourage in our competitors.
All shooters must be in costume, and we encourage invited guests and family also to be costumed. Shooters must remain in costume at all match events: dinners, award ceremonies, dances, et cetera."  (p. 3)

And:

"OUTLAWED

The use or presence of any outlawed item is a Stage Disqualification.

Ball caps

All types of athletic shoes or combat boots no matter the material from which they are constructed."

Thank you for your attention to this detail in the future, compadres.  'Nuff said.
